This is a specialized service that only certain groomers are specialized in and have talent to perform. If done incorrectly, this method can easily cut and damage coat integrity. This method acts to remove the top coat - guard hairs - to reveal a softer coat underneath. However, for some hard-coated breeds like schnauzers, it can actually help to encourage the rough/hard coat that their breed was made to have.
